The concept of the ATVSpade was brainstormed in the fall of 2005 when we decided to install a food plot on our 80 acres of hunting land.
While the workup and planting was completed before fall, we had many discussions of additional cover required to enhance the food plot area.
We discussed with great earnest the need to plant more trees in this area.
We spent weeks searching the options to rent or purchase a workable unit to transplant trees which already existed on the lot or plant new trees purchased at a local nursery.
We found two categories of tree transplant equipment.
The First
Hand and cart models, which made moving more than a few yards over soft ground, and CRP cover grass made the physical work unacceptable.
The Second
Rent or hire a Hyd. tree spade, and found out quickly that the costs were high and unless we planed more than just a few few trees, the cost and results were not acceptable.
We owned a 4 wheel ATV and this offered the vehicle. Which had already proven that it could navigate the rough and soft terrain while preparing the food plot, so we took maters into our own hands!
We put our effort into developing the ATVSpade that would fulfill our needs to plant new trees, and transplant and spread out the many new tree growths on his land on our schedule, at an affordable cost, and on as our time allowed.
In one day we are able to transplant 15 trees on his hunting land. Moving the trees up to 300 yards across various terrains was no problem.
The results were outstanding.
